What is JIS G3444?
JIS G3444 is a standard from the Japanese Industrial Standards for carbon steel tubes for general structural purposes. Steel pipe sizes for JIS G344 standard have an outer diameter (OD) of 21.7 mm – 1016.0 mm (approximately ½ inch – 40 inches) with wall thicknesses ranging from 2.0 mm – 22 mm, depending on grade and pipe size.
Grades and Applications of JIS G3444
- STK-290 → for light structures such as small frames and simple scaffolding
- STK-400 → general applications in civil and architectural construction
- STK-490 → medium structures such as supporting poles and building steel frames
- STK-500 → higher strength requirements, suitable for medium loads
- STK-540 → the highest grade, used for heavy load structures or special constructions
Classes of JIS G3444

- Class 1 → Must pass tensile test according to STK grade. Suitable for general applications such as light steel frames and scaffolding.
- Class 2 → Must pass both tensile test and bend test. Suitable for medium to heavy structures such as piles and building frames.
